Photo Scores by Goal: Dating vs Instagram vs Creative

Dating, social and creative photos are not on the same difficulty curve. Dating mean 54.5 (n=527), social / Instagram mean 61.7 (n=1,484), creative portfolio mean 69.1 (n=353). Dating has the highest below-60 rate (66.0%). Creative has the lowest (8.5%).

Dataset 2026-07-14 · since August 2025 · JSON · method

Three publishable goals, three rubrics

Each goal uses its own five criteria. Dating scores warmth, setting, grooming, gaze and light. Social scores crop, vibe, hook, aesthetic and authenticity. Creative is a portfolio test; its per-criterion breakdown is not published yet (criteria_n=14). Comparing means across goals is comparing different tests, not ranking people.

Professional, product, travel and headshot remain unpublished (n < 100). They are in the dataset and absent from this table on purpose.

Goal n Mean Median Below 60 80+
Social / Instagram 1,484 61.7 62 40.6% 3.2%
Dating apps 527 54.5 55 66.0% 2.7%
Creative portfolio 353 69.1 70 8.5% 7.6%

Dating is the hard end of the published file

Two-thirds of dating photos (66.0%) sit below 60. Four in ten social photos (40.6%) do. Creative drops to 8.5% below 60 with a mean of 69.1. 80+ stays rare everywhere: dating 2.7%, social 3.2%, creative 7.6%.

The honest read is selection plus rubric. People submit casual phone photos to dating. They submit more considered frames to Instagram. Creative uploads are already trying to be pictures. None of those facts is a match-rate or a like-rate.

Do not mix a dating score with an Instagram score

A 58 dating photo and a 58 Instagram photo failed different rows. Re-running the same file under the other goal is a new test, not a second opinion on the same test. If you want which of these two files is better for a dating app, use the dating goal on both. If you want the same for a grid, use social.

Takeaway

Goal is not a filter on one scoreboard. Dating (mean 54.5) is harder in this file than social (61.7) and creative (69.1). Pick the rubric that matches the use, then read that goal's own report.

Questions this report answers

Do dating photos score lower than Instagram photos?

Yes on overall mean in this snapshot: 54.5 vs 61.7. They are different rubrics. The gap is not a claim that dating photos get fewer likes.

Why is creative highest?

Creative mean 69.1 on 353 photos, with only 8.5% below 60. The per-criterion table is not published (n=14 breakdowns). Treat the overall mean as a sample of portfolio uploads, not a dating or Instagram result.

Where is LinkedIn?

Professional / LinkedIn has n=39 in the snapshot, below the publish threshold of 100. It is listed as a holdout, not as a row.

Can I compare my dating score to a friend's Instagram score?

Not usefully. Different goal, different five criteria, different sample. Compare two photos under one goal.
